“My most important asset is that I have lived a long time and have accumulated many years of life’s experiences.
I have lived in Santa Barbara since 1960 where my adult children grew up. Over this timespan, I have worked with people and families suffering from alcoholism, substance abuse and other co-occurring disorders.
For the past seven years, as part of the internship program in acquiring my license, I have facilitated groups at Mission Harbor Behavioral Clinic in Santa Barbara, including Therapeutic Writing, Spiritual and Art groups. The clients at Mission Harbor are admitted for various clinical treatments — some for substance abuse, some for depression and anxiety, and some for other mental health issues.
This work has allowed me to facilitate my clients’ pathways toward finding their voices and their own core realities. The emotional and spiritual prompts I provide in my groups focus on self-understanding and the resolution of unresolved grief. Throughout this time, I have recognized that the loss of fundamental security, especially in young people, is resonating with the fast pace of our lives these days.
This work has also fulfilled the part of me that was missing for the many years I worked as a businesswoman.”
